Dining

Aspens Services, a market leading contract catering company who only work in the education sector manage our Dining Hall and Canteen. You can find more information about them on their website here. Aspens offer exciting new menus and regular themed days offering our students the opportunity to try different foods and make lunch times fun and exciting.

Important information for September 2024:

We have been working with Aspens not just on the nutritional content of the food offer but also developments and initiatives to have a positive impact in terms of environmental considerations. As a result of this Aspens will be removing the cartons of milkshake, juice and water from their offer when we return to school in September 2024. In place of this we have:

  • Increased the number of free water fountains across the school site, with two in the main dining hall and one in the canteen as well as those located in house and faculty areas. There will also be two new external fountains available from September 2024.
  • Aspens have sustainable juice machines that students can fill their drinks bottle from. There is currently one of these in the new dining hall, but we are expecting a second in this location as well as one to be installed in the canteen. These machines dispense using a token that students purchase from the till points. The current charge for the token is £1.08, which buys a 330ml dispense into a drinks bottle with a choice of fruits (depending on the particular concentrates in stock, this could be strawberry, apple, mango or other fruits). This works out as 3.3p per ml of drink, compared to the current cartons which are 97p for 250ml or 3.9p for 10ml*
  • Milk shakes are now dispensed from the iced drinks machines, along with the "slushy" drinks. These will still be served in the blue plastic cups that must be consumed in the dining hall or canteen and left in the venue, or at times in disposable paper cups.

*This does mean that all students will need to bring a water bottle to school to be able to use the water fountains and sustainability machines. Please do contact your child's head of house if there is any financial difficulty with this as they may be able to support. Drinks cartons are by far the biggest source of waste from the catering offer, so this presents a saving in terms of the waste we send to landfill as well.
