Local Police Constable Celebrates International Women’s Day with Inspiring Visit to Gordano School

In celebration of International Women’s Day, PC Kara Zalewska, Trainer and Assessor in Central PDU, visited Gordano School to engage with Year 7 and Year 8 girls in an inspiring and interactive assembly. The visit aimed to encourage young women to explore careers in law enforcement and other fields while highlighting the importance of gender equality.

PC Kara Zalewska gave a presentation on her career in the police force, sharing her experiences and insights about different roles within the department, and introduced hands-on activities that allowed students to experience a taste of what it’s like to work in law enforcement.

This included practicing saving a friend from a frozen pond, learning crucial life-saving skills while building teamwork and problem-solving abilities, and dressing up in police uniforms and full riot gear, providing a memorable and educational moment for everyone involved.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to connect with the students and give them a glimpse into the many roles women can play in law enforcement,” said PC Kara Zalewska. “International Women’s Day is a perfect time to show young people, especially girls, that they can pursue any career they’re passionate about—whether that’s in policing, emergency services, or beyond. It’s all about encouraging them to believe in themselves and their potential.”

We are so thankful to PC Zalewska for coming in and making International Women’s Day extra special for our students. Her visit really brought the message of female empowerment to life, showing our female students that they can do anything they set their minds to and reinforcing our school vision to Dream Big.
