We are proud to celebrate our new Nurture Hub supporting students with SEMH needs
The Gordano Nurture Hub is an Early Help Provision run using Nurture UK principles and guidelines and is designed to support learners who are anxious about attending school for various reasons, giving them a soft start into their school day, exploring possible obstacles that may be stopping their learning, promoting their overall wellbeing and educational progress and providing them with training and tools to help them have a positive start to Secondary School.
Launched in September, this Provision is accessible to Year 7 students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs identified by the SENDCOs at both their Primary setting and Gordano. The Hub is used by up to 10 students and the Nurture Program will run for approximately 18 weeks including transition time back into Mainstream classes.
The Provision in the Nurture Hub is based on a traditional Nurture approach where staff will help students in developing their social and emotional skills including self–esteem, resilience, executive function, social skills, and emotional literacy. The Provision also includes core curriculum content so that students who attend the Nurture Hub keep up with core content they may miss in the morning sessions.
Students and Parents in the Nurture Programme have been very positive about the Nurture Hub and curriculum, with many students saying that it is the best part of their day! Parents have seen a difference in how their children are regulating, becoming more resilient and self-aware and attendance figures have significantly improved from Year 6.
The highlight of the week is Pancake Friday, where staff members and the Senior Leadership Team have also joined in.
